Car wrap cost for a full color change on a normal passenger car sits roughly between 3,500 and 6,000 US dollars when a professional shop installs cast film. Larger vehicles run higher, and complex body shapes higher still. Those are orientation ranges for a premium install, not a price list, and the spread has far less to do with the film than with the car underneath it.
We quote this work every week at our studios in Westlake Village, California and Weelde, Belgium. Below is what actually sits inside the number, in the order it moves it.
What does a car wrap cost by vehicle type?
As broad orientation for a professionally installed full color change in cast film:
- Compact and mid-size sedan: roughly 3,500 to 6,000 USD
- Large sedan, SUV or pickup: roughly 5,000 to 8,000 USD
- Sports car or exotic with aggressive body work: 7,000 USD and up
- Partial coverage (roof, hood, mirrors, accents): a few hundred to around 2,000 USD
Belgian pricing lands in a comparable band in euros. For commercial vehicles the logic changes, because the design is amortized across the fleet: see our ranges for wat een truckwrap kost.
What actually moves the number?
Body complexity. This is the biggest factor by a wide margin. A flat-sided sedan is a straightforward day’s work per section. A car with deep vents, splitters and compound curves takes far longer, and every one of those shapes has to be relieved and post-heated properly.
How much comes off the car. A quote that includes removing bumpers, mirrors, handles and lights so film can be tucked behind them costs more than one that wraps around them. It also looks right for years instead of months, because the edges are not sitting in the airflow.
The film itself. Cast film from a manufacturer such as 3M, Avery Dennison or Inozetek conforms to curves and releases cleanly later. Calendered film is cheaper per square foot and hands you the difference back as a removal bill.
The finish. Gloss is the most forgiving. Matte, satin and above all chrome are less so: they show every imperfection under the film and every seam, so they carry more preparation hours. Our guide to matte car wraps covers why that finish separates installers.
The condition of the paint. Film needs a sound surface. Flaking clearcoat, old touch-ups or aftermarket paint have to be addressed first, or the wrap will telegraph every one of them.
Whether anything is printed. A solid color is film plus labor. A one-off design adds design hours, proofing and print. That is a different service, covered under custom vehicle wraps.

Why is the cheapest quote usually not the cheapest?
Because the savings are borrowed against removal. We once spent more than sixty hours taking calendered film off a pickup that another shop had installed. The film had gone brittle, it came away in fragments, and the labor to remove it exceeded what the original wrap had cost. That bill arrives years after the discount does.
The other place cost hides is coverage. Two quotes for the same car can differ by a third simply because one wraps door jambs and the other stops at the visible panel. Neither is wrong; they are different products. Ask which one you are being quoted.
Does a wrap cost less than paint?
A quality wrap and a quality respray land closer together than most people expect. The wrap wins on turnaround, on reversibility and on protecting the original finish. Paint wins if you want the change to be permanent. We set the two side by side in car wrap vs verf.
Veelgestelde vragen
How much does a car wrap cost for a matte black finish?
Expect the upper half of the range for your vehicle type. Matte black hides nothing: dust under the film, a badly relieved corner or a misaligned seam all show, so preparation hours go up.
Is there a cheaper way to change the color?
Partial coverage is the honest budget route: a roof, hood or accent panels in a strong color, professionally installed. Spray-on coatings are not a shortcut worth taking on a whole car, and DIY film on complex panels tends to end as an expensive removal.
What does it cost to remove a wrap?
On cast film installed properly and removed within its service life, removal is a modest half-day to a day. On cheap film left on too long it can run into many times that, which is the strongest practical argument for paying for cast film up front.
Does a wrap add to what the car is worth?
It protects the paint underneath, which is what buyers actually pay for. A well-kept original finish under a removable layer is worth more at resale than a resprayed panel.
How long does the work take?
Two to four working days in the shop for a full color change on a normal car, and longer when panels come off or the design is printed.
