3M 2080 MX12 Matrix Black is a Structured film: a black with a fine, regular micro-texture that scatters light evenly, like textured plastic or technical fabric. It is darker and flatter than a normal matte black, with a dry, almost rubberized surface. In sun the texture is visible up close; from a distance it simply reads as very deep black.
That texture hides fingerprints and small scratches better than a smooth matte, which makes it practical for cars that live outdoors. Curves are no issue for the cast 2080 base, though the texture rewards careful handling around tight corners. Popular on trucks, off-road builds and as a roof or hood accent.
